It is to mentioned that the cordless phones share the same features as that of the standard telephones. Here in this article, we will examine how these cordless phones works.

A cordless telephone of any manufacturer is basically a combination of telephone and radio transmitter/receiver. A cordless phone comes in two major parts: the base and the handset.

A standard phone wire connects the base part of the phone to the phone jack. And as far as the phone system is concerned it is much similar like a normal phone. The incoming calls which come as an electrical signal is received by the base part. It converts it to an FM radio signal and then broadcasts that signal.

The cordless handset after receiving the radio signal sent by the base, than converts it to an electrical signal. The converted signal is then sent to the speaker where it is converted into the sound you hear.

In the same way, when you talk, the handset broadcasts your voice back to the base through a second FM radio signal. The radio signal is received by the base. Here the conversion takes place. The radio signal is converted to an electrical signal. The signal is then sent through the phone line to the other party.

The base and handset operate on a frequency pair that allows you to talk and listen at the same time, called duplex frequency.
