Was Anaximander the First Quantum Theoretical Physicist in 540 BC?
Did a man in Ancient Greece surmise the concept of Quantum Physics? Was Anaximander the first actual theoretical physicist, at least from a philosophical concept standpoint. Let the record show that if he was not, then he was very close to being such a thinker and in his day with no equipment or background knowledge of quantum physics this should be considered an extremely impressive level of thought indeed.
Anaximander (611-547 BC) thought that the smallest unit of matter would have to be boundless and infinite or unlimited and unrestricted in its essence. He talks of eternal, imperishable, inexhaustable and undergoing variations and change. Of course Anaximander was bettering the efforts of Thales that every object could be reduced to a single substance.

Without the scientific vocabulary of today, was he describing energy, frequency and the realm of quantum physics at the atomic and molecular level? It is too bad we do not have more of his writings, yet we can surmise from what we do have that in fact he should be credited with at least some of the history of quantum mechanics and physics at the atomic level.
